Attachment Based Sex Therapy in Arizona

Sexuality approached through attachment, safety, and the nervous system

Sex therapy within this practice is emotionally focused, attachment-based, and neurobiologically informed.

Sexual concerns are understood through the lens of:

  • Nervous system regulation
  • Emotional safety and attachment history
  • Religious and purity culture conditioning
  • Trauma and medical experiences

This work supports individuals and partners navigating low desire, sexual shutdown, shame, or relational sexual disconnection. Sexuality is approached as a state-dependent, relational experience, not a performance or obligation.

Sex Psychotherapy at Embodied Alignment Therapy is emotionally focused, attachment based, and informed by neurobiology and polyvagal theory. Sexual concerns are understood as nervous system experiences shaped by safety, stress, attachment patterns, and relational context, rather than as isolated problems of desire or performance.

Desire, arousal, and intimacy are treated as state dependent experiences. When the nervous system is operating in protection, sexual access often becomes limited or unavailable. Therapy focuses on restoring regulation and emotional safety so that sexual experience can emerge naturally rather than through effort or pressure.

This work supports individuals and partners navigating low or inconsistent desire, sexual shutdown, anxiety related to intimacy, trauma or medical related sexual concerns, and differences in desire within relationships. Attention is given to how emotional closeness, trust, and nervous system states influence sexual responsiveness.

Sessions are paced carefully, with respect for boundaries and embodied cues. The focus is not on technique, performance, or expectation, but on helping the nervous system experience safety in relational and intimate contexts. As regulation increases, many clients find that desire and pleasure become more accessible without forcing change.

Sex therapy within this practice is integrative and relational, recognizing sexuality as part of the broader emotional and attachment system. Healing occurs through connection, safety, and regulation rather than instruction or correction.
